I think there should be two seperate catagories for this. One for backgrounds and partial sets and one for complete sets. Its a bugger going threw all the stuff looking for a complete set.

Am I being picky or do I have a valid point?

I think you have a point. Several people have brought this up before, Essencay among them I believe.

At one time, it seems there was something in the guidelines for ObjectDock about uploading sets only rather than individual icons. Or maybe it was just a suggestion by the moderators. Memory tends to get a little fuzzy around the edges as I get older.

I agree that something needs to be done in this area. I would think that single icons or png's should be in the Misc Icons library. And shouldn't icon sets go in the iconpackager library? It also seems as though many icons and png's are in both libraries. So either both libraries should be merged or there needs to be more distinct guidelines as to what goes where.

There are guidelines: .png icons to ObjectDock, .ico icons to Misc Icons (Windows cannot use .png icons). Full icon packages should go to IconPackager. The idea behind the Misc Icons library was to accept icons which wouldn't fit into an IconPackage. Folks get confused though - if only I had a pound for every rejection which went out due to icons being submitted to the wrong section

I'd like to see a separate sub category in OD for backgrounds though, they are kinda difficult to find...

Ditto. Altho' when I want to find backgrounds I use the advance search feature and then check the background box.

Yeah, advanced search works good enough for me "usually", but I'd definetly vote for some moderation as object dock seems to be under fire from high amounts of spam

It's not just the backgrounds getting flooded with junk and spam.

You can upload full sets of odjectDock icons as .PNG's, so from what I read, they should go into the ObjectDock library?

Spam in the library? I don't understand.

Yep.

I once suggested that we encourage people to upload sets, instead of single dock icon, but Frogboy pointed out that he, and others liked to search the library for specific, individual dock icons, and not for sets.

I guess I should elaborate, but I think ObjectDock is getting like Wallpapers. To many random ripped things, and stuff just pulled off other sites, silly pictures, stuff from game sites and for some reason tons of cell phones...

But rips aside, even the stuff people at least half make as well as the ones that really play by the rules, there's SOOOO much spamming. Like say someone makes a folder icon, fine eh? Now lets say the person that did, then goes and takes that folder and slaps an image on it to make the folder say "adobe" folder... still nothing major. But the kinds of stuff we seem to be getting is...

Someone takes that folder, then slaps an image on it of.....
Adobe
Adobe Acrobat
Creative Suite
Illustrator
Photoshop
InDesign
GoLive
InCopy
PageMaker
FrameMaker
GraphicsServer
SvgViewer
Macromedia
Studio MX
Flash MX
Freehand MX
Dreamweaver MX
Fireworks MX
Director MX
ColdFusion
3ds Max
Bryce
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excell
Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft Outlook
Microsfot Outlook express
SPAM

Now I'm of course not saying, don't upload stuff like that, nor saying just making that is spam or no one will use it. The problem is people take stuff like all the above and MORE and upload it INDIVIDUALLY. Put all that junk that flat out belongs together in a single pack and stop flooding the library is what I'm saying.

Same thing happens in wallpapers STILL and other things like, "here's a blue orb", then 2 days later, a NEW submission of the same thing "here's the red one", then "here's the green one" and of course, "here's the brushed metal background blue one" and then "here's the red one with metal bg"...just spam, plain and simple. It's easy to zip all these things together, and it's easy to update if you want to add to the already existing item. I just wish people would do it, or be forced to as part of the uploading/moderation process.

Oh and can anyone say "bootskins".
